IP65 on an aluminium profile does not automatically make every part of an LED strip installation suitable for outdoor exposure. The profile, strip, driver, connectors, cable entries and installation detail all need to be checked together.

What IP65 tells you

The featured profile is listed with an IP65 rating for outdoor use. That describes the profile as a component. It does not confirm the rating of the LED strip inside it, the power supply, the joins or the cable route.

Profile rating versus strip rating

An outdoor profile can house different strips, but the strip still needs to suit the exposure and the available space. Confirm the strip width does not exceed 10.5mm and check its own IP information. A cover can diffuse light and help protect the channel, but it is not a substitute for a properly rated strip.

Component Check before ordering
Aluminium profile IP rating, dimensions, cover and installation position
LED strip Voltage, strip width, IP rating and light output
Driver or power supply Output voltage, load and installation environment
Connectors and cable entries Compatibility, sealing and route protection
Recess or mounting detail Drainage, access and protection from standing water

Do not mix ratings casually

Use the lowest relevant rating as a warning point and confirm the manufacturer information for the complete installation. In particular, avoid describing an installation as waterproof simply because one profile is IP65.

For the component stage, compare LED power supplies and LED striplight connectors and cabling alongside Outdoor Inground LED Profile with Frosted Cover.

Frequently asked questions

Is an IP65 profile suitable outdoors?

The product is listed as IP65 for outdoor use. The rest of the installed system must also be checked.

Does IP65 mean submersible?

No. IP65 should not be treated as a submersion rating.

What is the most common mistake?

Treating the profile rating as proof that the strip, driver, connectors and cable entries have the same protection.
