Start with the control method

Separate the strip from the dimming system

“Dimmable” can describe the strip, the driver, the controller or the complete system. Confirm which part provides the dimming function, then match voltage, load and control method before you buy.

1. Choose the light source

Decide between a fixed white strip and a colour-changing format. This determines the type of controller and the way the finished installation will be used.

2. Match the power path

Check the strip voltage and wattage against the driver or power supply. A dimmable component is only useful when the complete system is compatible.

3. Plan the control

Confirm whether the installation calls for a wall dimmer, remote receiver or another control method, and keep indoor or protected-use limits in view.

Verified starting points

Compare the right part of the system

The first two options are strip-light formats; the latter two help control or power a compatible installation. They are complementary choices, not interchangeable products.

Before installation

Three checks that prevent the wrong match

Voltage and load

Use the exact voltage and power information on the product pages. Size the supply for the planned run and confirm the dimmer is rated for the load.

Environment and profile

Check whether the strip is intended for an indoor or protected setting and plan the mounting surface, profile and heat management around the actual product.

Qualified installation

Have fixed wiring and mains-side connections completed by a suitably qualified person, following the product instructions and applicable electrical requirements.
