Start with the sensor's own wiring diagram and the light's electrical requirements. A qualified electrician should complete the mains connection, especially when replacing a fitting or working inside an existing circuit.

Installation begins with the right diagram

Day-night sensors are not all wired in the same way. Check the product label, terminal markings, voltage and maximum load before touching the circuit. A sensor may be designed for a mains light, a low-voltage setup or a complete fitting with its own photocell.

Safety first: switch off the circuit at the distribution board and confirm it is dead. If the diagram, cable arrangement or load rating does not match your installation, stop and ask a qualified electrician to assess it.

1. Confirm the application

Decide whether the sensor will control a garden light, boundary light, security floodlight, sign or an indoor low-voltage circuit. This narrows the suitable voltage, IP rating and load range.

2. Match the electrical facts

Check Live, Neutral and Load markings, the stated voltage and the maximum wattage. Do not copy a terminal sequence from another sensor because the housing looks similar.

3. Test the light path

After installation, restore power only when the electrician has checked the connections. Test the sensor at dusk or cover the light-facing cell briefly, then allow a few seconds for the switching response.
